Turkey Fryer are a must have appliance for the holiday season. The main types of Turkey Fryer are propane outdoor deep fryers or counter top indoor electric deep fryers. The differences between these types of fryers vary greatly so I have made this site to help you with finding the best turkey cooker for your needs.
First lets discuss electric turkey fryers.
Electric turkey fryers are made for indoor use only so please be aware of this. The only time I recommend taking your fryer outdoors is to let it cool before storing it away.
It should not be left outdoors like a grill or charcoal cooker. The mist in the morning can ruin your machine, consider in these cold months it may be rained on or frozen. A turkey fryer is not cheap so you want to make sure its ready for use next year.
I sometimes take my turkey fryer camping where there is other power sources but you can forget tailgating as its to dangerous. Most electric counter top turkey fryers are made for the smaller types of turkeys and made for a use when preparing a meal for a family under 10 people in size.
Some counter top cookers are actually roasting your turkey, so be aware of what type of cooker you are actually buying. If the machine does not require oil for use then you are actually buying a roaster and if you have an oven then you can achieve the same results without buying this appliance.
These days electric fryers have a safety switch that shuts of the cooker when the oil becomes dangerously hot. All electric turkey fryers I have used have a temperature gauge which will also help you in achieving the rite heat level. If you fry up many lots of foods, like wings or fries, then for best results let the oil come back to the boil before adding more foods.
Electric fryers take a lot longer to heat up then propane fryers so please be aware of this and look at the thermometer. If you want tasty crispy foods then one should be patient with an electric fryer, may people make the mistake of adding there food too quickly and end up with oily tasting food.
Electric turkey fryers are safe to use around family and animals, which is unlike the outdoor propane cookers that are very dangerous. If you watch the news around thanksgiving you will see many tragic accidents each year from propane fryers.
Now lets move onto discussing high power outdoor propane fryers
Outdoor fryers use LP gas, which gives your cooker great mobility; you can literally take your fryer anywhere. Recently we have one setup on the back of my friends boat, we were catching live fish and frying them immediately, which I must say, was extra tasty. Most people who fry when they go tailgating also you propane fryers due to them being portable You can also boil and stew using a propane cooker which makes it great for all months of the year. I always recommend to my friends to carry to LPG tanks as running out at the wrong time can be awful and ruin your meal.
Using electric fryers indoors has a major disadvantage, as the smell can be awful, that is why to most of my friends I suggest outdoor propane turkey fryers.
There is a few things you need to consider when finding a location for outdoor frying, make sure the ground is stable and level. Also you should check your local forecast and fry under a patio if rain is a problem.
Outdoor fryers heat up very quickly, when buying your fryer make sure you also buy an external frying thermometer as propane fryers don’t usually have built in temperature gauges. This may seem like common sense but do not ever use water on a turkey fryer as it is extremely dangerous. Also never leave your fryer unattended as I discussed above these are accident-prone devices.
